By India Today News Desk: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday hit out at the Congress over its party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s “poisonous snake” remark for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Comparing PM Modi to Lord Shiva (also called Neelkanth), Shivraj said that the prime minister is drinking poison for the people of the country.
“PM Modi is building a prosperous and powerful India. Congress has become ‘Vishkumbh’. They are spreading poison about PM Modi. PM Modi is Neelkanth, he is drinking poison for the people and the country,” said Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
For the unversed, Neelkanth is made up of two words, ‘neel’ meaning blue and ‘kanth’ meaning throat. As per Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva has been named Neelkanth as he consumed poison originating from the ocean and placed it in his throat.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday stoked a controversy when he said “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is like a poisonous snake”.
“Modi is like a poisonous snake. If you think it’s poison or not and you lick it, you’re dead. You might think: is this poison? Modi is a good man. He’s given it and we’ll see it. Then you’re fully sleeping if you lick it,” Kharge said.
Kharge’s comment triggered outrage in the BJP with Amit Malviya calling it “desperation”.
Facing flak over his comments, Kharge said: “The Bharatiya Janata Party is like a snake. If you try to lick you will ultimately die after that. I didn’t talk about him (PM Modi). I don’t make personal statements. I mean to say their ideology is like snake. If you try to lick, death will be inevitable.”
