By India Today News Desk: Kiranmayi Nayak, the chairperson of the Chhattisgarh Women’s Commission, courted controversy when she said that pre-wedding shoots can be harmful for women if marriages don’t work out and end in divorce.

Under the chairmanship of Kiranmayi Nayak, the 172nd public hearing was held on May 9 Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur. A total of 25 cases were scheduled for hearing in this public hearing and most of them were related to disputes between couples after marriage.

In one such case, it was revealed that a wedding could not take place despite the date being fixed. The applicant had filed a complaint with the Commission for this. During this hearing, the applicant applied to withdraw her case. The applicant explained that both parties have reached an agreement and the other party had returned the money spent on preparations for the wedding and deleted the photos and videos of the pre-wedding shoot.

“The opposing party was made to understand that if in the future any of the applicant’s photos or videos are circulated or shared on social media without her consent, the applicant can file a report against the opposing party for cybercrime,” the applicant said.

During the hearing, Kiranmayi Nayak said that people are now influenced more by Western culture these days, which is having repercussions on our Indian culture.

“I urge parents that they should avoid pre-wedding shoots for their children’s future as it can be harmful for their daughters,” she said.
