Puducherry women govt staffers get 2-hour exemption on Fridays for household work, prayers

By Pramod Madhav: The Puducherry government has announced that women employed in government offices can start work at 11 am on Fridays, to help them carry out household work and prayers. The decision was announced by Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundarrarajan and Chief Minister N Rangasamy.

Sounderrajan said she had earlier placed a request with the chief minister to reduce the working period by two hours for women government employees.

“He has given a two-hour concession on every Friday morning. While everyone is talking about work time, women in Puducherry will be happy. So they have both money and time concessions. Rs 1,000 is also being given and now time concession, for which the documents have been signed,” Sounderrajan said.

Puducherry Chief Minister Rangasamy said instead of 9 am, women government employees can come by 11 am.
