By Anirban Sinha Roy: “I promise today on Eid, I am ready to give my life, but I will not let the country divide,” said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday while addressing a gathering for Eid-ul-Fitr in Kolkata. She alleged that there are some people who “want to create divides in the country” but “we want peace in Bengal.” “We don’t want clashes, we want peace,” she added.
Her statement came weeks after clashes erupted in the state over Ram Navami celebrations. The violence lasted for several days with police having to resort to imposing prohibitory orders and sniping internet services.

Mamata Banerjee also alleged that she has to “fight” agencies. “I have to fight everyone. I have to fight with a gaddar party, I have to fight agencies too.” Two of her ministers, Anubrata Mondal and Partha Chatterjee are currently in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody after they were arrested in the cattle smuggling case and the teacher recruitment case respectively.
The TMC supremo also alleged that some people have “taken money from the BJP, saying they will divide Muslim votes”. “I tell them that they don’t have the courage to divide Muslim votes for the BJP. It is my promise to you today. There is one year until the (Lok Sabha) elections. See who will get elected and who won’t,” she added.

She wished the people who had gathered for namaz on the occasion of Eid and said, “Everyone please enjoy Eid. Eid Mubarak to all of you. Dont be afraid, no one can harm you. We will be together. We will build the nation, we will build the world together. We will fight and we will win.”
