Anand Mohan stoked controversy with his release from the Saharsa Jail for fundamentally two reasons. One, the prison manual was tweaked to facilitate his release, and two, Anand Mohan was released before breakfast as was prescribed by the norms prevalent.
The Nitish Kumar government on April 10 tweaked prison rules to facilitate his release. The Bihar government and the Opposition traded barbs over the release of this strongman that directly questioned CM Nitish Kumar in particular.
Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi charged Nitish Kumar for making out-of-turn provisions to release strongman Anand Mohan. He also claimed, cases like this are only considered for remission/release after the inmate completes 20 years of imprisonment.

Responding to the allegations made by Sushil Modi, on Saturday Janata Dal (United) MLC Khalid Anwar informed India Today that release of prisoners was okay only on humanitarian grounds. Anwar further blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for stoking controversy for political gains.
Meanwhile, Rashtiya Janata Dal spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad blamed Sushil Kumar Modi for having double standards. He further questioned Modi on why he attended the pre-wedding bash of Anand Mohan’s son, who is also an MLA.
