By Dipaneeta Das: Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose today assured that the right decision on matters related to universities in the state will be taken at the right time. During his visit to Bankura University, when asked about the Chancellor Bill, Governor Bose said: “The right decision will be taken at the right time in matters regarding all universities in Bengal.”
The Chancellor Bill, passed by the Bengal Assembly in June 2022, seeks to replace the Governor as the Chancellor of the state-run universities with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The decision was taken by the state cabinet on May 26, 2022.

The decision came against the backdrop of former Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s run-ins with the state government over appointments of vice-chancellors at universities. The former Governor alleged that the state government appointed several Vice-Chancellors without Raj Bhavan’s consent.
This was Governor CV Ananda Bose’s first visit to Bankura since assuming office. At the university, he interacted with the students, faculty members, and the Vice-Chancellor. The visit was also a fact-finding exercise, Governor Bose said.
