By Anirban Sinha Roy: Kolkata’s East Bengal football club was lit up with excitement as Bollywood superstar Salman Khan performed at the 100th anniversary of the club on Saturday. The actor was invited to perform at the event, called ‘Dabangg, The Tour-Reloaded,’ which was organised by the club owners.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with the club authorities, felicitated the actor with a red and yellow jersey, which represents the colours of the club. According to sources, Salman Khan’s favourite number is 27, so the authorities gave him a jersey with the number 27 written on it.

The owners of the club also gifted him a gold coin and a lifetime membership card, making him an honorary member of the East Bengal Club. The actor also signed on a few footballs at the event, reports said.

The East Bengal Club has a tradition of honouring Bollywood stars. Celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, and Mithun Chakraborty have been a part of this earlier.

As per reports, the club authorities initially planned to invite the actor on the occasion of the centenary of the East Bengal Club, but the plan had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
