By Pankaj Upadhyay: Two days after Sharad Pawar resigned as Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, Shiv Sena through its mouthpiece, the Saamna editorial called Pawar’s resignation episode as “planned” and said that he had “prepared his speech in advance”.
Saamna said, “According to Pawar’s close associates, he was actually planning to retire on May 1, which is Maharashtra Day, but due to the ‘Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi’ meeting in Mumbai, he announced it on May 2 instead.”
“The announcement of resignation in a program like the release of his autobiography ‘Lok Manche Sangati’ is a coordinated one. His autobiography is a reflection of his struggle and his political life’s essence. To understand his resignation, one would have to read between the lines of the pages left unwritten in his book,” the editorial said.
“After Sharad Pawar resigned, efforts to persuade him started. However, many of Pawar’s followers in the party have one foot in the BJP and instead of seeing the party disintegrate like this, Pawar may have had such a secular idea of resignation with dignity,” it further added.
The editorial also hit out at Ajit Pawar and said his “ultimate goal in politics is to become Maharashtra’s chief minister”.
Sharad Pawar’s resignation as NCP president came as a shock to many party leaders, including senior leaders Praful Patel and Jayant Patil, who usually take part in the party’s highest decision-making process.
After Sharad Pawar announced his resignation, some party leaders told him that he should have discussed his decision with a few of them. To this, Pawar replied that they would have tried to stop him had they known about his wish to step down.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Wednesday reacted to Sharad Pawar’s resignation as Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief and said that the latter had resigned from his post and not the party. Sanjay Raut added that he would continue seeking Pawar’s guidance.
He said that his party is keeping a close watch on the political developments within the NCP and he has discussed the matter with party chief Uddhav Thackeray.
Raut also reacted to Sharad Pawar’s book where he wrote that Thackeray failed to quell the discontent within his own party and resigned from the post of Maharashtra CM without giving any fight.
Talking about Sharad Pawar’s book, Raut said, “Whatever is written about Uddhav Thackeray by Sharad Pawar will be his personal opinion. Very soon Uddhav Thackeray will be giving an interview in Saamana and answer all questions regarding the same.”
