State cannot ban Bajrang Dal: Veerappa Moily on Congress’s Karnataka poll promise

[ad_1]

By Anagha: Facing massive backlash and protest from pro-Hindu outfits over its poll promise to ban outfits, including the Bajrang Dal, Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Veerappa Moily said there is no proposal to ban the Bajrang Dal yet. “The only mission is to stop hate politics,” he said.

“We have mentioned both the PFI and the Banjrang Dal in our manifesto. This includes all (radical) outfits. Banning an outfit is not possible by a state government. A ban on Bajrang Dal is not possible by the Karnataka government. DK Shivakumar will give more clarity. The proposal is not before us. Even the Supreme Court gave a judgement to stop the hate politics. We have no proposal to ban the Bajrang Dal. I can tell you this as a leader,” Moily said.

The Congress in its manifesto for the May 10 Karnataka Assembly election promised to “repeal all unjust laws and anti-people laws passed by the BJP government within one year of coming to power” and take firm actions against individuals and organisations for spreading hate, including the Bajrang Dal and the PFI.

The party reiterated its five guarantees – Gruha Jyothi, Gruha Lakshmi, Anna Bhagya, Yuva Nidhi and Shakti – in its manifesto.
