By Satender Chauhan: Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has called out the authorities for stopping fugitive Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh’s wife Kirandeep Kaur at the Amritsar airport. Kaur was stopped at the airport while she was trying to board a flight to the United Kingdom on Thursday.
In a video statement issued on Friday, Giani Harpreet Singh said stopping Kirandeep Kaur at an airport in Amritsar was not right as she was going to visit her parents.
“The government shouldn’t create an atmosphere of panic. No first information report (FIR) has been registered against her. If she wants to go home, why was she stopped? If she has no fault, she should not be harassed,” he said.
“Moreover, she is a British national. She didn’t commit any crime and if the government wants to ask or enquire anything from her, they should respectfully visit her residence,” the Akal Takht chief added.

Kirandeep Kaur was held for questioning at the Amritsar airport while she was trying to board a flight to London. The flight to London was scheduled to leave at 1.30 pm.
She was interrogated by the immigration authorities and a few other officials for more than three hours. She was then asked to return along with her relatives, who had come to see her off at the airport.
According to Punjab Police, Kirandeep Kaur is a citizen of the United Kingdom and is a UK passport holder. She has no case filed against her in Punjab or in any part of the country.
There is no concrete evidence or FIR registered with the Punjab Police or the central agencies regarding Kirandeep Kaur being an active member of the Babbar Khalsa International while staying in the UK.
Kirandeep Kaur was detained as a precautionary measure under the same legal procedure under which Amritpal’s family and acquaintances are questioned.
