Tamil Nadu cop urges parents to send children to school, CM Stalin lauds after video goes viral

By Pramod Madhav: A heartwarming video of a police officer urging parents to send their children to school in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur has gone viral, earning praise from state Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

40-year-old Paramasivam from Madurai is working as Sub-Inspector at Pennalurpettai police station.

In the video, Sub-Inspector Paramasivam can be seen addressing parents from the Thideer Nagar region, where 40 tribal families rely on farm labour to survive.

Paramasivam, who was made aware that some of the families were attempting to involve their children in fake labour, implored parents to send their kids to school, promising to assist them in any way he could.

“If you need any kind of help or need money for food, come to the police station. I’m ready to help. But please send children to schools. Now, they are given eggs all five days and food. I’m ready to fall on anyone’s legs too to help you. Please send the children to school”, said Paramasivam.

He also reminded parents of the Sarah Sikshq Abhyan scheme, which mandates that children up to 14 years of age must attend school. He warned that parents could face accusations if their children did not attend school.

“I will not be lethargic when it comes to children. I’ll even let go of a criminal as I can catch them tomorrow, if not today. But not sending children to school is like poisoning a child and destroying the future generation. Don’t fall for superstition,” warned Paramasivam.

CM STALIN LAUDS COP

The video gained traction on social media and Tamil Nadu CM Stalin commended Paramasivam’s efforts to promote children’s right to education.

“I read the happy news in the morning paper! I will share. The job of the police is not just to prevent crime; they also have a role to play in shaping a good society. I congratulate S.I Paramasivam of Bennalurpet for speaking up for children’s right to education,” tweeted CM Satlin.
