By Shilpa Nair: Tamil Nadu DGP, C Sylendrababu, on Wednesday transferred the investigation into alleged custodial torture by ASP Balveer Singh to the CB-CID.
The investigation has been transferred to the CB-CID based on the interim report submitted by P Amudha IAS who was appointed by the state government to inquire into the allegations.
ASP Balveer Singh, during his posting in Ambasamudram, was accused of indulging in grave custodial torture against several suspects.
Several victims accused the IPS officer of removing their teeth with pliers, rubbing stones on their teeth, crushing their testicles etc.
On April 17, an FIR was registered against Singh based on a complaint from a victim named Subash. The police officer was booked under 323,324,326 and 506(1) IPC.
The move to transfer the case comes at a time when the opposition and several human rights activists have been slamming the DMK government of trying to “protect” the IPS officer and over the alleged delay in taking action against him.
