Those who try to disrupt peace, harmony will face action: Punjab CM after Amritpal’s arrest

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said strict action would be taken against those who try to disrupt the peace of the country.  The AAP leader’s statement came after Khalistani separatist leader Amritpal Singh surrendered in Punjab’s Moga on Sunday morning after delivering a sermon at a gurdwara in Rode village. Bhagwant Mann said that the Punjab Police took action against Amritpal Singh and his supporters on March 18. “We arrested a few on March 18 but couldn’t arrest some of them. If we wanted, we could have arrested everyone on March 18 but we didn’t want bloodshed or bullets to be fired,” said the Punjab CM. Speaking about the violence that broke out in Ajnala, the AAP leader said, “During the Ajnala violence, the protestors used the Guru Granth Sahib as a shield and stormed into the police station. I had told the DGP no matter what happens, the Guru Granth Sahib should not be destroyed. We didn’t use water cannons, nor were stones pelted. Few of our police officers got injured but we ensured to protect the sanctity of the Guru Granth Sahib,” said the Punjab CM. Bhagwant Mann thanked the Punjabis for maintaining peace and brotherhood in the last 35 days that Amritpal Singh has been giving the Punjab Police a chase.
