By Anupam Mishra: A team of West Bengal CID officials on Wednesday arrested two accused in the Egra blast case wherein nine people were killed, and nine others were left injured on Tuesday. Officials said an FIR has been filed against the main accused — the owner of the factory, Bhanu Bag.
According to sources, Bhanu Bag, a former Panchayat member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), was spotted at the site of accident just before the explosion. Local sources said Bhanu had fled on a motorcycle after the blast, and headed towards Odisha.
The explosion was reported from an illegal firecracker factory located in West Bengal’s East Midnapore district on Tuesday. While nine of the injured people were declared dead on arrival at the hospital, nine others are currently under treatment. The CID took over the case later on Tuesday, and the West Bengal government announced a compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh for the kin of the deceased.

The firecracker factory was raided last month and action was taken against the owner. The factory, however, managed to continue functioning despite the crackdown, police sources said.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari will pay a visit to the site of accident today. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had confirmed on Tuesday that the owner of the factory was arrested previously for the illegal business but resumed it after getting bail.
