West Bengal govt employees raise DA hike demand during IPL match

[ad_1]

By Anirban Sinha Roy: The demand for outstanding Dearness Allowance (DA) and DA hike was raised by a group of government employees during an IPL match held at the Eden Gardens on Monday. The match was being played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).

A photo of protesting members of the Sangrami Joutho Mancha has come to light. Some of the agitators were also wearing KKR jerseys. They stood in the gallery with placards and demanded hike in DA.

A group of government employees have been camping under Shahid Minar demanding DA hike. On the 100th day of their agitation on Saturday, they started a march from Hazra More in South Kolkata. The procession passed in front of Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s residence. On Monday, the agitators were seen raising their demands to increase DA during the IPL match in Eden Gardens. Besides demanding DA hike with placards, they also shouted slogans in support of KKR during the match.

However, hackles have been raised over their entry into the stadium with placards. In Eden Gardens, spectators cannot enter with too many items during the game. However, the members of Sangrami Joutho Mancha claimed that they did not carry any items which were prohibited. They made their demands peacefully, they added.

A section of state government employees has been demanding DA equivalent to central government employees for a long time. The DA case is still pending in the Supreme Court.

Several government employees have also gone on strike in the past over the demand of a DA hike. They also resorted to ‘digital non-cooperation’. This time, they sported placards during the IPL match between KKR and PBKS.
