‘Who helped him escape in the first place’? Congress raises questions on Amritpal’s arrest

[ad_1]

By India Today News Desk: A barrage of political reactions has been pouring in after the arrest of Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh. While the ruling parties are taking credit for Armitpal’s arrest, the Opposition remains cynical of the action taken so far against him.

The Congress Party has raised a slew of questions following Amritpal’s arrest. Seeking the Centre’s clarification on if the separatist leader had a connection with somebody in the central or state government, Congress’s Randeep Surjewala cast doubt on the chain of events leading to Amritpal’s capture.

“Who helped the anti-India propagandist and supporter of terrorists Amirtpal to escape in the first instance? Where was Amritpal hidden all these days, and who sheltered him? Where did he stay, and are those forces, not anti-India forces? Who are the accomplices of Amritpal, and why are NIA, CBI, IB and Punjab Police not disclosing it?” asked Randeep Surjewala.

“Who are the co-conspirators of Amritpal operating from the inside and outside India, and what action did the government of India and Punjab take against them? Does Amritpal have a connection with somebody in Central and the state government?” asked Surjewala, who is also Congress’s Karnataka poll incharge.

Reacting to the arrest of Amritpal, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said a fugitive can’t escape the clutches of the law for long. Strong action must be taken against those inflicting terror in society, adding that had the action come even earlier by Punjab Police, it would have been much better.

On the other hand, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sanjay Singh, said the “AAP” government of Punjab will not allow the peace of Punjab to be disturbed under any circumstances. The safety of the people is paramount for us. We have shown that when needed, we have the courage to take even the harshest steps for the sake of the people.”

Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh, who was on the run since March 18, surrendered before Moga Police in Punjab. He will be shifted to Assam’s Dibrugarh jail, where eight of his aides, including Papalpreet Singh, are already being held under the National Security Act.
