By India Today News Desk: “Main baat yeh hai ki Guddu Muslim… (the main point is that Guddu Muslim),” these were the last words of Ashraf on Saturday night right before he and his brother gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed were shot dead.
Guddu Muslim is one of the 10 people named in the Umesh Pal murder FIR. Six of them have been killed and Guddu Muslim is one of the four people who are on the run.
Umesh Pal was shot dead in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on February 24. The murder was caught on CCTV cameras.
And after the killing of Atiq and Ashraf on Saturday, the focus has now shifted to Guddu Muslim.
Guddu Muslim, it is said, prefers to hurl bombs, instead of using guns, to kill people. He has been associated with Atiq Ahmed since the gangster-politician bailed him out of jail.
Known to police as a ‘bomb specialist’ who allegedly has a long history of association with criminal gangs, Guddu is believed to have been an old aide of Atiq. In a widely circulated video of the daylight murder of Umesh Pal in February, he was seen throwing crude bombs while riding pillion on a motorcycle and was named in the FIR.
According to the police, Guddu is currently on the run, and his last known location was in Karnataka.
EARLY LIFE
Born in Allahabad, Guddu Muslim was sent to Lucknow as he got associated with the crime world at a very young age. However, in Lucknow, he got involved in bigger crimes. Guddu was arrested in 1997 on the charges of murdering a teacher of Lucknow’s La Martinere School. He was released for want of evidence.
Involvement in several crimes made Guddu flee Uttar Pradesh as he was already wanted by the police. He escaped to Bihar but was arrested in 2001.
It is believed that Atiq Ahmed got him out of jail and they became close.
ASSOCIATION WITH ATIQ AHMED
Guddu Muslim is said to have played a role in the bombing during Umesh Pal’s murder to return Atiq Ahmed’s old favour.
A report has claimed that Atiq Ahmed had helped Guddu Muslim with Rs 8 lakh some years ago when the latter had fallen sick and his condition was critical. In a bid to return the favour to Atiq Ahmed, Guddu Muslim used explosives in the attack on Umesh Pal.

Sources have claimed that Atiq Ahmed’s aide, Guddu Muslim, used to handle his entire criminal network and has a lot of information about the gangster-politician’s modus operandi. The Special Task Force (STF) got information about this during Atiq’s interrogation, after which, the search for Guddu was intensified.
Guddu Muslim reportedly used to smuggle weapons for Atiq Ahmed and bring them into the country through Punjab.
Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were killed on Saturday by three shooters while the duo was being taken for a medical examination in Prayagraj by a police team.
The police also expect to ascertain the location of Atiq Ahmed’s wife, Shaista Parveen, from Guddu Muslim once he is arrested.
BOMB SPECIALIST
Being a henchman of the top names of the underworld, Guddu is known for his expertise at making crude bombs. It is being said that the dreaded gangster does not kill people by firing bullets, but prefers hurling bombs for such attacks.
Guddu has worked for several dons, including Dhananjay Singh, Abhay Singh and Mukhtar Ansari. He had been working for Atiq Ahmed for the last 10 years. His name was also figured in Lucknow’s famous Peter Gomes murder case.
Guddu Muslim also hurled crude bombs in the shootout where Umesh Pal was shot dead on February 24.
LAST KNOWN LOCATION IN KARNATAKA
Police on Monday said the last known location of Guddu Muslim was in Karnataka.
