Won’t affect 2024 Lok Sabha polls: Assam CM on BJP’s fallout in Karnataka

By Saraswat Kashyap: Despite the Congress’s big win in Karnataka, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma dismissed any chances of the grand old party emerging victorious in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

At the sidelines of a function in Assam’s Sonitpur district, he said that even last time, before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress had successfully formed the government in Karnataka but the ended up Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dominating the Lok Sabha elections.

“The opposition is taking this win as a straw to hold on to in the ocean, but it will have no impact in the future,” he said.

While talking to mediapersons, Himanta Biswa Sarma also said, “In last two-three months different surveys have indicated that the Bharatiya Janata Party will not do that well in Karnataka. There is nothing surprising about today’s results.”

When the Assam CM was questioned about the performance of the BJP in places that he had campaigned in Karnataka, he said, “The feeling was completely different there in Karnataka. I have checked the areas where I campaigned, BJP has won there.”

Assam Chief Minister and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Convenor, Himanta Biswa Sarma was one of the star campaigners of Karnataka Assembly elections this year.

He held 15 rallies across the state of Karnataka. Sarma also held a massive road show in Arsikere, a constituency in the Hassan area. However, the BJP failed to bag the Arsikere seat with JD(S)’s K M Shivalinge Gowda coming out victorious.
