By Shilpa Nair: K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief, in response to a legal notice issued by DMK organising secretary RS Bharati over his ‘DMK files’ allegations, said he would not apologise and denied having committed any offence.

Last week, Annamalai released the ‘DMK Files’, making allegations of graft against party leaders including Chief Minister MK Stalin. In response, the ruling DMK issued a legal notice and demanded an apology, damages to the tune of Rs 500 crore.

Annamalai, in a statement through his counsel, said the notice was an attempt to muzzle his voice.

“There is no question of rendering any apology or paying damages. Annamalai stated that if at all anyone has to pay anything, it is the DMK party and its so-called Golden President and its leaders who have to return all their ill-gotten wealth back to the people of Tamil Nadu,” the statement read.

Announcing that each statements in his press conference were made after due diligence and careful thought, Annamalai reiterated that the persons named in the press conference, including MK Stalin and his family members, have not responded to the allegations yet.

This, according to him, shows that they are afraid of the truth and are using the political party and its machinery as a shield to hide behind.

In conclusion, Annamalai has stated that if the DMK ventures to initiate any action against him, the same shall be suitably defended by him at their risk and cost. The issue seems to be escalating, and it remains to be seen how the DMK will respond to Annamalai’s statements.
