Your people insult me, my family: Uddhav Thackeray on PM Modi’s ‘abused 91 times’ claim

By Ritvick Arun Bhalekar: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief Uddhav Thackeray said he and his family were being constantly “abused” by the BJP, in reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remark where he accused the Congress of abusing him “91 times”.

Addressing the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) ‘Vajramooth Rally’ in Mumbai on Monday occasion of Maharashtra Day, Uddhav Thackeray said, “PM Modi claimed during Karnataka poll campaign that the Congress has abused him 91 times. But I want to ask PM Modi why your people are abusing me, Aaditya and my family every day? Why don’t you shut their mouths first? Sanjay Raut and our other people still don’t use disrespectful language against you.”

PM Modi, during a poll rally in Karnataka on April 29, said the Congress had abused him ’91 times’ for what he insisted was due to its “sources” of corruption being shut down by him.

The event, held at MMRDA grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex, saw top leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance share stage. NCP leader Ajit Pawar, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole and other top leaders were also present.

Speaking about the Barsu refinery protest, Uddhav Thackeray said, “I will definitely go to Barsu on May 6 and meet protestors. I will meet protestors in the morning in Barsu and will address rally the same day in the evening.”

Speaking about his letter to the Centre in which he had, during his stint as the state chief minister, suggested the site at Barsu in coastal Ratnagiri district for a refinery project, Uddhav Thackeray said, “If you show the letter written by me to PM Modi regarding Barsu land allotment, then did I write letter of giving away BKC’s prime land for bullet train? We don’t need your bullet trains. No one wants to go there from Mumbai.”

“I had not opposed Metro carshed but I had objection about the land in Aarey. But they gave away Aarey as well as Kanjurmarg land for metro the moment our government collapsed,” said Uddhav Thackeray.

Accusing the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena government in the state, Uddhav Thackeray said, “These are people who want everything for themselves. They want to separate Mumbai but we will not allow these attempts. We will cut those who will try to break our Mumbai.”

“Attempts are being made to lower the importance of Mumbai by shifting our big ticket projects, financial centres and stock exchange to Gujarat,” he claimed.
