Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants smashed the fastest fifty of IPL 2023 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday.
Pooran brought up his half-century off 15 balls, with a six off Wayne Parnell in the 16th over. He went past Ajinkya Rahane’s 19-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
Pooran’s 15-ball fifty is also the joint-second fastest in the history of the IPL. Sunil Narine and Yusuf Pathan have also scored half-centuries off as many balls. KL Rahul and Pat Cummins hold the record for the fastest IPL fifty (14 balls).
The left-hander fell for a 19-ball 62, which included four fours and seven sixes, and put Lucknow in the driver’s seat while chasing a mammoth 213.
The West Indies cricketer was bought for Rs. 16 crore by the Lucknow franchise at the IPL 2023 auction. In IPL 2022, Pooran plied his trade for Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored 306 runs in 14 matches while striking at 144.34.
