Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpayee is busy with the promotions of his upcoming ZEE5 original film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. Inspired by true events, the upcoming movie is a courtroom drama directed by Apoorv Singh Karki and starring Manoj Bajpayee in and as lawyer P.C Solanki. It is the story of an ordinary man – a high court lawyer who single-handedly fought an extraordinary case against the country’s biggest godman and successfully ended up prosecuting him for the rape of a minor under the POCSO act. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Bajpayee talked about the intention of the story and whether he worried about any issues in general related to the godman plotline.

EXCLUSIVE: Manoj Bajpayee says the intention of behind Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is to highlighting the strength of rape victim fighting for justice: ‘That girl didn’t even waver for a day’

Manoj Bajpayee said, “For me, it is not about that [religion]. For me, personally, the film is about the strength of that little girl. In all of this, P.C. Solanki would not have been able to fight this even for a day, without that girl’s strength or courage. That girl didn’t even waver for a day, for a minute, for five years. I was taking all my input from her strength. I was not forgetting that if I was behaving a certain way it was only because of that girl and that girl is standing like a rock. My character asks her ‘You will be asked the certain type of questions’ and she goes ‘That’s okay’. So to get that kind of courage and maturity from that little girl, for me, it immediately became her story and not Solanki’s story. Solanki became Solanki because of that girl.”

In the movie, P.C Solanki (portrayed by Manoj Bajpayee) is fighting the biggest case of his life that too against a powerful self-styled godman in a minor girl’s rape case. Despite death threats against him, his family and the key witnesses, P.C Solanki is persistent in his fight for truth. The battle between an ordinary man’s willpower and a godman’s power continued for 5 long years where P.C Solanki fought against some of the country’s most eminent lawyers to prove that no godman is above law, and that truth will always prevail.

Produced by Vinod Bhanushali’s Bhanushali Studios Limited, Zee Studios and Suparn S Varma, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is touted to be one of the biggest legal courtroom dramas and will premiere exclusively on ZEE5 on 23rd May 2023.
