Gauri Khan launched her coffee table book ‘My Life In Design’ at a high-profile event in a five-star hotel in Mumbai on May 15. The guests present at the launch were in for a surprise when Gauri’s husband, superstar Shah Rukh Khan, also accompanied Gauri at the book launch.
Gauri Khan at her book launch reveals the challenges faced in getting the family picture: “It was easier to get Shah Rukh’s dates. We were just waiting for Aryan’s dates all the time”
Shah Rukh Khan gave a very touching introductory speech, which set the mood. Later, SRK said how Gauri became the designer of their iconic bungalow, Mannat, as they didn’t have money to hire a professional house designer.
Gauri Khan was then asked about her favourite aspect of the book. Gauri revealed, “The best part of the book is the family pictures we have done together. Getting all of them under one roof (was difficult). It was easier to get Shah Rukh’s dates. We were just waiting for Aryan’s dates all the time, that when is he going to give me the time and when is AbRam going to give me the time to get this one picture together? That’s what I have really enjoyed apart from the design.”
The anchor, at this point, revealed to the guests that the photoshoot of the Khan family was done twice. One was done before the pandemic. She said, “But later, Gauri said, he looks different now, we have to do it again.” By ‘he’, the anchor obviously referred to Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri’s youngest child, AbRam. Shah Rukh Khan, in his trademark funny style, asked, “Who, me?”
In his introductory speech, SRK highly praised Gauri as he said, “The book can inspire people who feel that their dreams have passed them by. They can try at any age, without any formal education; she could not get (formal education) as she got married very early but still made something come out of it. Thank you Gauri for giving us this mantra of success. I am extremely happy and satisfied that I am here when she’s launching her book.”
