By Saraswat Kashyap: The Assam Police has registered a case against Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Srinivas BV based on a complaint filed by expelled Assam Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) president Angkita Dutta. A team of Assam Police on Saturday left for Karnataka in connection with the FIR against Srinivas BV, police sources told India Today.

Police teams will also leave for Raipur and Delhi in connection with this case, the sources said.

A team of Assam Police has left for Karnataka to investigate the harassment case against Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV by expelled Assam Youth Congress leader Angkita Dutta, said police sources.

“The police team has left for Karnataka to arrest Srinivas BV in the harassment case after preliminary investigation. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has submitted a letter to the Assam Police too,” a source told India Today.

On Saturday, Angkita Dutta was expelled by the Congress for six years for “anti-party activities” after she accused Srinivas BV of “mental harassment” and “discrimination” on the basis of gender.

According to Assam Police, the FIR was registered at Dispur police station under Sections 509 (using words, gestures or acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 294 (obscene acts and songs to the annoyance of others), 341 (wrongful restraint), 352 (assault or use of criminal force to any person), 354/354A(iv) (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of The Information Technology Act.

ANGKITA DUTTA QUESTIONS HER REMOVAL FROM POST

In a statement issued by the Congress, Angkita Dutta was expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years for “anti-party activities”.

Angkita Dutta said that she was removed as the Assam Youth Congress chief without any prior warning and questioned whether the removal was on account of her gender. She accused BV Srinivas of being “sexist and chauvinistic” and making derogatory comments.

“I have been harassed for the last six months. I spoke about this to the party leadership. An in-charge was sent here, Vardhan Yadav. After he came here, he started creating a lot of trouble in the Assam Youth Congress. He also started creating lobbies. And all this he was doing as per Srinivas BV’s instructions,” she said in an interview with India Today TV.

Angkita Dutta is the daughter of Anjan Dutta, who was a minister in Tarun Gogoi’s government in Assam and also headed the party’s state unit.

The NCW asked the Assam Police to conduct an inquiry into the harassment allegations against Srinivas BV by Angkita Dutta.
