By Pramod Madhav: A ruckus broke out in Tamil Nadu’s Dharapuram on Sunday between two groups within the BJP following a heated argument. The party workers came to blows and members of the Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) party also joined in on the fight. Two HMK leaders were injured and later hospitalised.

The fight started when BJP Thiruppur South District Head Mangalam Ravi had a quarrel with party state functionary Kongu Ramesh.

WHAT LED TO THE FIGHT?

The 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat was being screened in Kongu Ramesh’s shop. At around 8 pm, Mangalam Ravi and his associates went to Kongu Ramesh’s shop and an argument allegedly broke out over the screening of the episode. The argument quickly turned violent, with the two sides getting into fist fights and hitting each other with wooden blocks.

Members of the Hindu Makkal Katchi, who were already at the site, also joined the fight. The party’s district head Eswaran and organisational secretary, Shankar, were hospitalised after getting injured.

Both groups have now filed a complaint with the police, alleging that the opposite party initiated the attack. Meanwhile, videos captured by CCTV and phone cameras of the incident have gone viral.

The police have launched an investigation into the matter.
